NON-SURGICAL GUM DISEASE TREATMENT

Periodontal or gum diseases are infections in the structures around the teeth, but not in the actual teeth themselves. These structures include the: gums, alveolar bone, and periodontal ligament. It can progress from gingivitis, which is the first stage of periodontal disease and only affects the gums, to the other structures.

American Association of Periodontology (AAP) treatment guidelines stress that periodontal health should be achieved in the least invasive and most cost-effective manner. This is often accomplished through non-surgical periodontal treatment.

Dr. Kiran Kaur at Kaur Dental of Fox Chapel is one of the leading dentists in Pittsburgh Pa for Non-surgical gum disease treatment.

The treatment starts with proper diagnosis regarding the cause of the gum disease. Dr. Kaur utilizes oral DNA technology for the diagnosis. Once the cause is diagnosed, the treatment is followed which may include scaling and root planning,  balancing oral PH with advanced perio treatment, and prescribing  pharmaden support supplements.

ORAL DNA DIAGNOSTIC TESTING

We have available to us, the opportunity to test not only what kinds of bacteria are causing your periodontal disease, but also whether you are genetically susceptible to it. This is so important in treating cases of gum disease because we are now able to target specific bacteria in the mouth effectively and knowing your genetic susceptibility shows us whether certain treatments will work for you or not.

The Oral DNA test identifies the type and concentration of specific oral bacteria that are known to cause periodontal disease, including “red complex bacteria”. This test is easy to do, just swishing with a saline solution for 30 seconds. With the same saliva sample, we are also able to test genetic susceptibility which enables us to find out which patients are at increased risk for more severe periodontal infections.

BALANCING ORAL pH THERAPEUTIC GUM TREATMENT

The eco-system of the mouth balances good and bad bacteria, influenced by plaque control and pH levels.  An acidic environment allows bad bacteria to thrive and contributes to plaque accumulation, demineralization of the teeth, bad breadth, gingivitis and periodontal disease. A more alkaline environment favors good bacteria and is essential for good oral health.

Dr. Kiran Kaur incorporates a therapeutic treatment called Eco balance in her non surgical gum disease treatment options. Eco balance is a clinically tested formulation that balances oral pH for health mouth, fresh breath and white teeth. It is 16X more effective than brushing and flossing alone when used with the Glow warming heat technology. The warming heat volumes the Eco balance formulation  to penetrate hard to reach areas and increase contact time on soft tissue.

Eco Balance formulation is composed of Sodium Bicarbonate and Xylitol which neutralize acid in the mouth by raising pH while deodorizing. It also includes CPC which is an anti-microbial agent that targets bad breadth causing germs.

SCALING & ROOT PLANNING (DEEP CLEANING)
Pittsburgh, Pa

The most well-known type of non-surgical treatment for gum-disease is known as scaling and root planing. This under-the-gum procedure involves a careful removal of plaque and tarter from the tooth roots. During this procedure, Dr. Kaur will remove harmful bacteria and irritants from deep beneath your gums to prevent plaque from accumulating again. This process helps the gums to reattach to the root surface of the tooth, and in effect keeps the periodontal bacteria out.
